I’m happy to announce the birth of my son! And a little project that I’ve been working on for the past 9 months. Since this was our first pregnancy, I have to admit that I was nervous the entire time. Still am with the newborn, but thats another story. Taking a photo a day with plans to compile it into a time-lapse video, helped me turn some of the nerves into creativity. Here is our birth announcement, I hope you enjoy:
Here are a few stills from the video. We start off in the guest room which transforms into the nursery. Included in the video is also a baby moon to Hawaii along with a few other surprises. Check it out and see for yourself.
With help from my family, I was able to give my wife an awesome baby shower. We decided to go with a Toy Story theme. The idea was to have it resemble Toy Story but making it feel less like a kids birthday party and more of a “pinterest” feel while staying true to the colors of the theme. We cooked food and planned games for our guests. The baby shower was a huge success.
My mom and grandma surprised us with this amazing diaper cake
These pins were given to each guest. Every time a guest would get caught saying the word “baby” they would have to forfeit their pin to whoever caught them.
Some other games were “Name That Song”, each song had the word “baby” in the title. And “Name That Baby” where guests brought baby pictures of themselves and we all had to guess who was who.
We used these blocks to have guests try to guess the name of the baby.
For party favors we gave out popcorn labeled “Ready to Pop”
The first time we went to hear the baby’s heart beat was such a nerve racking and exciting time for me. It only took a few seconds to find it, but to me that was one of the longest moments in my life. So many thoughts were running thru my head. What if they can’t find it? What if there’s something wrong? I was so nervous, it seemed like they took hours to find it and then….there it was. The fastest tiny little heart beat I’ve ever heard. Well, aside from mine at the time. It was that moment when I knew that shit just got real. Absolutely real.
I’m an 80’s kid. So naturally I was obsessed (understatement) with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and still am.
When I saw these items in the store, I had to buy them. In fact, the bib and Michelangelo socks were the first thing that I ever bought my future baby.
This lead me to look back and think about all of the TMNT gear and toys that I had growing up and I couldn’t help but wonder what cartoon my kid will be into. Whatever it is, I know I will watch it too and have fun with it just like my parents did. Until then… COWABUNGA LITTLE DUDE!
A few months ago, I found out that I was going to be a father. Watching those two little pink lines appear on the pregnancy test was almost unreal. I was overwhelmed and wanted to call all of my friends and family to share the news, but also wanted to wait until after the first trimester…so I waited (Video coming soon).
Then I started to think about the next few months, is it a boy or a girl, will the baby be healthy, who am I going to eat sushi with, what I could do to prep the house, will I be a good father, etc etc. And yes, there are a million things to do, but for now I’m just taking it one day at a time.
