What an amazing week it has been…

Last week I brought home my first born son. The feeling is indescribable. I’ve been learning a lot about being a parent, a husband and myself. He has completely changed my life in an amazing way. But while he has been keeping me busy, something else has also happened that has taken me by surprise. My photo a day video has gone completely viral. After just one week on YouTube it reached over 3 Million views. I’m getting emails and messages from people I haven’t talked to in years saying that saw me on a website, the news, or their friends have shared my video. It’s all very exciting. A project that started out as something simple for me and my wife, has blown up like I never expected. What an amazing ride it has been so far.

A few publications include Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Mashable, Pixable, TIME, ABC, Good Morning America, Daily Mail, Laughing Squid, Inside Edition, Elite Daily, SF Globe and the list goes on. I’m having a lot of fun with this and hopefully my son will appreciate this one day.

Toy Story Themed Baby Shower

With help from my family, I was able to give my wife an awesome baby shower. We decided to go with a Toy Story theme. The idea was to have it resemble Toy Story but making it feel less like a kids birthday party and more of a “pinterest” feel while staying true to the colors of the theme. We cooked food and planned games for our guests. The baby shower was a huge success.

My mom and grandma surprised us with this amazing diaper cake

These pins were given to each guest. Every time a guest would get caught saying the word “baby” they would have to forfeit their pin to whoever caught them.

Some other games were “Name That Song”, each song had the word “baby” in the title. And “Name That Baby” where guests brought baby pictures of themselves and we all had to guess who was who.

We used these blocks to have guests try to guess the name of the baby.

For party favors we gave out popcorn labeled “Ready to Pop”

Calm Before The Storm…

We are about 7 weeks out, things are getting real. For now the room has a nice calm feel to it, the toys and clothes sit calmly in place waiting to be used and the noise level is very low. During the day we sometimes hang out in the room and plan things. We talk about where we will play and how we will organize certain items. Today my wife is researching strollers while I work on putting shelves on the wall. Dunder and Munster relax and try to enjoy the calmness of the room while they can.

The Nursery. Part 1

A room that once only contained an extra bed, old curtains, and off season clothes will now be converted into my son’s bedroom. There is so much potential here. I know that I only need a few basic things like a crib, changing table, etc. But I really want to go all out. I want to paint the room, decorate it, and make it a magical place for growing boy. I am even toying with the idea of painting something along the walls: dinosaurs, safari animals, ninja turtles. I’m not sure yet if that will happen. For inspiration I’ve downloaded the Houzz app for Kid’s Rooms. Pretty inspirational rooms on there, but will be a lot of effort to make it “Houzz worthy”. I will, however, try my best to make it awesome and will post my progress here. Here are some before pictures:

One thing I need to do is get plantation shutters because this room gets really bright.

And if you have dogs, you know that they are always curious about what you are doing. Dunder and Munster always have to be right in the middle of any given task that I have.

As a designer, I’d rather spend time creating a custom invitation than go out and purchase a pack from the store.  I really wanted to get creative with the Baby Shower invitation and announcement of the sex. As a life long Disney fan,  it didn’t take long for me to come up with the theme of the baby shower and the idea for the matching invitation.  Here is Toy Story inspired outcome. TO INFANCY AND BEYOND!!!

And the back side with some information changed for this post. 🙂

Dunder and Munster are getting ready for some strange things to happen to the world they once knew.

And here are some initial sketches. Originally I thought about having the back be an etch a sketch, but I really wanted to draw Buzz Lightyear along with a few other Toy Story Characters.
