Recently, I started letting my son lay on the floor and explore the room visually. He gets to lay there, wiggle his little legs and play. I put out a white sheet on the floor and even allowed my dogs to lay near him, smell him, and get used to him. It’s really funny that once they smell him, they just lay down next to him and stare. I have no idea what they are thinking, but I can tell that it is positive. Then of course, I started snapping a bunch of pictures…
That’s when the ideas started rolling in. Watching them lay on the sheet interacting was so beautiful, but I saw potential for an art project. Here are a couple of initial ones. I can see myself doing a lot more of these as the months go by.
This is how it started, just a dog and baby playing on a sheet…
with a little creativity, that white sheet becomes pride rock from The Lion King.
And also a scene inspired by Where the Wild Things Are.
I changed my first diaper this weekend. Now I just have to practice on a real baby. Shouldn’t be too hard huh? As a kid I was pretty good at Super Soaker fights in the school yard, so hopefully those skills apply.
Since this will be my first time as a father, I’ve been taking a bunch of classes in the community to help me prepare as much as possible. This weekend was Newborn Care 101 and I found it very helpful. I seriously had no idea what to do with the baby once we bring him home, but now I feel a little better now. Other classes that my wife and I have taken are Intro To Breast Feeding, CPR, and Labor and Delivery. The classes take up a good portion of the weekend, but I highly recommend them.
The class also got me thinking about an item that I hadn’t yet added to my todo list. An item that signifies that we are running out of time and should be ready to go any day now. This item really makes me nervous, I guess its because I know that after it is complete, the next time I will use it is when I am in a panic running out the door with my wife, but now is the time pack:
